History

With the provisions of Law 3512/2006 “Mosque of Athens and other provisions” (Official Government Gazette of the Hellenic Republic A' 264), the necessary regulatory framework for the establishment and operation of a Mosque in Attica was introduced for the first time in national legislation, in order to enable Muslims living in the Attica area (Greeks and non-Greeks) to exercise their religious duties, as dictated by their religion.

The “Administration Committee of the Mosque of Athens”, which was established under the above regulatory framework, is a non-profit Legal Entity under Private Law (L.E.P.L.). The L.E.P.L. “Administration Committee of the Mosque of Athens” is supervised by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs and is not subject to the broader public sector.
